REMIGIUS “REGGIE” KARWOWSKI, age 78, of Portage and Leesburg, Florida, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. Reggie had been a longtime Hobart resident for 37 years and member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Hobart. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany and retired carpenter with US Steel after 43 years of service. Reggie was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Thomas Council #1347 and the Silver Bell Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Louise, 4 children: Philip (Marjorie) Karwowski of Winter Springs, FL, Kenneth (Gena) Karwowski of Western Springs, IL, Marilyn Karwowski (Rodd Zimmerle) of Fairfax, VA and Jerome Karwowski of Chicago, Il, 10 grandchildren: Andrew, Sara, Joey, Jonathan, Tony, Anna, Kate, Claire, Maddie and Logan, 3 brothers, Henryk Karwowski of Poland, Stefan Karwowski of Brooklyn, NY and Zygmunt (Mariola) Karwowski of Elk, Poland, 2 sisters, Helene (Donald) Baron of Gary, IN and Jadwiga Waszkiewicz of Brooklyn, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials are preferred to American Lung Association or Catholic Relief Services Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2012 from 2-8 pm at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart. The Silver Bell Club will conduct a service at 3:30 pm and the Knights of Columbus will conduct a prayer service at 7:00 pm Tuesday. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 5, 2012 beginning with 9:30 am prayers at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel and then processing to St. Bridget Catholic Church, 568 E. 2nd St. (Corner of Front & Center St.) for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am with Rev. Dominic V. Bertino celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Indian. For information please call 219-942-2109 or online www.reesfuneral homes.com.
