Agnes E Berkes, (nee Cochran), age 91, a resident of Portage passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. She was born on June 16, 1920 in Clinton, Indiana the daughter of Michael and Mary Cochran. Agnes was married to Joseph Berkes on July 5, 1945 in Gary, Indiana. She enjoyed playing bingo, bunko, and cards with her sisters, friends and especially her grandchildren. Agnes was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Agnes is survived by her loving family; Daughters, Maryanne (Rodney) Cliver and Josie (Robert) Mattix both of Portage, 5 grandchildren; Major Kevin (Adina) Mattix USMC of Texas, Kelli (Ted) McMullen of Michigan, Kurt Mattix of Michigan, Glenn (Christa) Cliver of Georgia, and Emily ( Jacob Roth) Cliver of Greenwood, 8 great-grandchildren Ryan, Olivia Mattix, Alex, Lauren, Addison, Zach and Zeke.
Agnes is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; parents; Michael and Mary, brother George, John, Nicholas and Joseph Cochran, sisters Ann Lush, Mary Adams, Julia Peppas Margaret Crokus, Helen Mayerick and Rose Hohrun.
Funeral Service for Agnes will be held Monday, October 17,2011 at 6:00 p.m. with Father John Blaksee officiating. A visitation will be held Monday, October 17,2011 from 1:00 pm until time of service at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. Cremation will follow.
