Aida Iris Flores

Aida Iris Flores, 81 of Hobart, IN, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 18th, 2025. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosa Maria Castro Guzman; her father, Rafael Cruz Aponte; her youngest son, Javier Flores; her first grandson, Ruben (Tony) Mejia Jr.; and her special niece, Anne Flores.

She is survived by her 3 children, Felix (Kathy) Flores of Michigan City, IN, Jacqueline (Mariano) Luyando of Lake Station, IN, Cecilia (Juaquin Cintron) Flores of Gary, IN; 11 grandchildren, Tish, Chico, Lisa (Johnathan), Rosa, Virginia, Peto, Dee-Dee, BJ (Don-Traiel), Angel, Marisol & Christina; 16 great-grandchildren; & 1 great-great grandson, Zyair; her loving sisters, Nellie Flores of Gary, IN & Luz Delia (Jose A. Cotto Martinez) Cruz Castro of Portage, IN; several nieces & nephews.

Aida was born on May 24th, 1943, in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico to Rosa Maria Castro Guzman & Rafael Cruz Aponte. She had 3 brothers Miguel Angel Cruz, Raul Cruz & Rafael Cruz, 4 sisters Ana Hilda Rosado, Gloria Cruz, Nellie Flores, & Luz Delia Cruz Castro.

Aida was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed cooking and baking for all her family. In her spare time, she loved to crochet, knit, and play dominoes. She loved to go out and explore all the beautiful things nature had to offer, especially flowers.

She will be sadly and heartfully missed by all who knew and loved her. She will remain in our hearts forever.

A funeral service for Aida will take place Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road with Pastor Jose A. Cotto Martinez officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park. For more information, please call (219) 942-2109.
