Alfons A. "Al" Schubert, age 89, of Hobart, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 8, 1927 in Glumpenau, Germany. Al retired in 1987 from working as a Bricklayer for the Bricklayers Local # 4 in Merrillville. He enjoyed fishing with his family and will always be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. Nobody will ever beat the grandpa challenge.

Al is survived by his son, Alfons W. (Esta) Schubert; daughter, Hilde Just; step son, Fred (Fran) Stamate; step daughter, Elena (fiance, Frank Fourhier) van Kampen; step daughters in law, Elaine Stamate, Jane Stamate; 13 grandchildren, Brandon (Amber) Schubert, Mark (Angela) Schubert, Heidi (Damen) Theis, Jill (Bob) Seguri, Heather (Jim) Murphy, Jonathan Stamate, Jerri Stamate, Nick (Dana) Stamate, Christina (David) Gruett, Michael Stamate, Eric (Jodi) Just, Jasen (Autumn) van Kampen, and Tanya Garcia; numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Hedwig (nee Kirsch) Schubert and Renata (nee Schultz) Schubert; step sons, Mike Stamate and Nick Stamate.
