Alfred W. Sobkowski, age 87, of Portage, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso.  He was born in Gary, Indiana on January 23, 1933 to the late William and Ann (nee Wegrzyn) Sobkowski.  Alfred was a veteran of The United States Army.  He retired from US Steel in Gary.  Alfred was a member of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church in Portage.  He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Alfred is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lenore (nee Lach) Sobkowski; son, Gregory (Sue) Sobkowski; daughter, Beverly Sobkowski; and grandchildren, Patrick Sobkowski, Alison Sobkowski.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Robert Kopanski; and his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Rd. Portage, IN 46368.

A private memorial mass will take place at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin McCarthy officiating. Cremation has been entrusted to Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.
