Obituary

Alicia Otero, 86 years old, passed away December 30, 2021. She was a resident of Northwest Indiana for 71 years. Alicia was born in Guayama, Puerto Rico, to the late Alejandro Ocasio Rivera and the late Maria Mercedes Ocasio Rivera.

Alicia was a woman of great faith, fierce prayer warrior, high-spirited, compassionate, kind-hearted loving faithful loyal servant of the Lord our Father God. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Church, the Altar and Rosary Sodality, the Legion of Mary, and the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women. Alicia was a devoted wife, loving and caring mother/grandmother, dedicated mentor, enjoyed volunteering and helping her community, loved to garden, was a great cook and supported many charities. Alicia retired from St. Mary's Medical Center and St. Catherine's Hospital. Alicia's life will be forever cherished by her family that, until her passing, spanned five generations.

She was preceded in death by her husband Santo Otero, grandson Geraldo V. Ortiz, granddaughter Monique I. Otero, and four brothers:  Jose Antonio, Angel Luis, Hector, and Harold.

She is survived by her loving children:  E. Gricelle Cardona-Rosado, Silquia I. Otero, Olga Iris Ortiz, and Roberto (Sandra) Otero; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Friends are invited to meet with Alicia's family on Sunday, January 2, 2022, from 2-7:30 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, with an Altar and Sodality service at 6:00 p.m.

Friends are also invited to join Alicia's family on Monday, January 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2447 Putnam Street, Lake Station, for a Mass of Christian Burial.  Luncheon to immediately follow.

The family will have a private burial at Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
