Aloma O. Gorgei
Portage, Indiana
age 87, passed Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Moses Caring Place in Valparaiso. She was born on July 28, 1927 in Gary, Indiana to the late Clarence Pierce and Laura (nee Sabinski) Hillan. She was a 1946 Portage High School graduate and then married the love of her life Joseph (Joe) Gorgei on August 3, 1946. One of her biggest enjoyment was that her mother lived with her and Joe for over 30 years. She worked for over 30 years for the Portage School system as a cook retiring in 1994. Aloma enjoyed working in the yard and really enjoyed shoveling snow. She loved to go shopping (for exercise), cooking different dishes and baking. Family gathering where often held at her home, where penny ante poker games always occurred. She was known for her pecan tasses which she continually had a supply of. Aloma and Joe loved driving to California to vacation with the Shirley and Frank Gorgei (Joe's brother) and the rest of the Gorgei clan. She will be sadly missed by all who came in contact with her. She was loved by many.
Aloma is survived by her sons; Robert (Denise), John (Penny) Gorgei Jr. and Michael (Patti); stepson, Dennis grandchildren, Lisa (Darren), Brian (Rosie) , Chris, Kim, Brandon (Stephany), Tim (Katti) and Mikee, 11 great grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces and extended family and her beloved dog, Kricket.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Gorgei on December 18, 2005 ; parents, Clarence and Laura Hillan; brother Chuck; sisters, Virginia, Josephine, Margret, Lucille; daughter-in-law, Ann and special friend Suzy Wilson.

A funeral service for Aloma will be Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. Cremation will follow.
