ALVIN R. WELP, age 80, of Portage,
Indiana, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011 at home. Alvin was a longtime Northwest Indiana resident and served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was retired from US Steel and was a member of American Legion Post #260 in Portage.
He is survived his son, Allen (Shay) Welp of Portage, 2 daughters, Karen (Jeff) Paulson of Portage and Kathy Thomas of Atlanta, GA, 5 grandchildren: Brandon & Halee Welp; Jennifer & Emma Paulson and Alexander Thomas, sister, Dorothy Curtis and sister-in-law, Dorothy Welp, both of Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (nee Schulp) Welp, parents, Herman & Barbara Welp and brother, Harold Welp.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, with American Legion Post #260 officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage, Indiana.
