ALVIS COX , age 90, of Portage, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Knox County, KY on November 8, 1925 to the late Walter and Sarah (nee Moore) Cox. Alvis retired from US Steel after 30 years of service. He enjoyed participating in the Turkey Shoot at the American Legion Post #502 annually. Alvis will be remembered as a hardworking man who loved his family dearly.
He is survived by his 3 sons, Dennis (Phyllis), Danny (Toni), and Ronald (Rose) all of Portage; 1 daughter, Janice (Carl) Thompson of Portage; 12 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; sister, Maggie (E.L.) Allen of London, KY; other loving family.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Pearl (nee Jones); sisters, Jewel (Cecil) Hopkins and Katherine (L.D.) Thomas.
A visitation for Alvis will be, Friday, March 11, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Noon at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage with Chris Birky officiating.
