Obituary

Andrew C. Garber, age 92, of Hobart passed away Monday March 19, 2018 in his home with his loved ones at his side.  Andrew was born April 7, 1925 in Gary, Indiana to the late Michael and Anna (Vass) Garber.  He was the owner of the Garber Agency which he operated for forty-three years prior to his retirement in 1999.  He was a WWII US Army veteran serving as a staff sergeant on the front lines of the Pacific Theater.  Andrew was a member of Assumption BVM Catholic Church and American Legion Post #454 in New Chicago.  He graduated with a B.S. Degree in Philosophy from the Loyola University Chicago. He was an avid tennis player, mentoring many young players. He volunteered at many local tennis tournaments.  He also loved gardening and was a long time Hobart Brickie and Notre Dame sports fan.

Andrew is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Joan Garber; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Friday March 23, 2018 at Assumption BVM Catholic Church 3530 Illinois Street Hobart, Indiana 46342 with Rev. Lourdu Pasala officiating.  Burial will follow in Calumet Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers Andrew's family requests that memorial gifts be given to the charity that the donor chooses.
