Andrew Herbach, age 90, of Portage and formerly of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018. He was born on June 11, 1927 in East Gary to the late Peter and Phyllis Herbach. Andy proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Army during the Korean War. He was a life member of the Hobart VFW #5365, the American Legion #54, Hobart Moose #783, Hobart Elks Lodge #1152, Northwest Indiana Retiree Club, St. Thomas Knights of Columbus #1347 of Hobart, Hobart Senior Citizens Club, AARP, Polish American Social Club of Pasco Co, Florida, Steelworkers Local #1014. He retired from US Steel where he was employed as a Millwright for 34 years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife, Bernice Herbach (nee Kondra); daughter, Elyse Goff of Portage; son, Andrew Herbach of Palm Springs, California; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Visitation for Andy will be held Friday, January 26, 2018 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10:00 am directly at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 107 Main Street, Hobart, IN with Rev. Benjamin Ross officiating. He will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. For more information, please call (219) 942-2109.
