Angeline Rose Jancaric, age 98, a former Miller resident, passed away peacefully at the Brentwood assisted living center in Hobart on March 28, 2014. She was born of Croatian parents on August 30, 1915 in Gary, Indiana. She graduated from Froebel High School in 1932. After graduating from Washington Blvd. Nursing School in Chicago, she joined the US Army serving in Europe during WWII and attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. Following the war she worked at Methodist Hospital, various summer camps, at the Gary Budd Plant, and as a private duty nurse before retiring from Midwest Steel in 1980. Angeline was an avid gardener active in the Gary Garden Club. She loved shopping for antiques and enjoyed many hours of Arts and Crafts including Knitting and Crocheting. She took part in the lives of her many nieces and nephews and was a very generous and helpful person especially to her elderly friends. Angeline was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church.

Angeline is survived by her sister Florence McDaniel of Kerrville, TX; two brothers Frank J. Jancaric of Miller and Joseph (Shirley) Jancarich of Hobart; 12 nieces and nephews; 26 great nieces and nephews; 35 great great nieces and nephews; and 3 great great great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mato and Anna (Srbelj) Jancaric; sisters Catherine Ratkay, Francis Jancaric, Rose Jancaric, Sophie Gawor, Violet Carabetta and Anne T. Jancarich; and brothers John P. Jancarich and Nickolas Jank.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Tuesday April 1, 2014 at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church 6060 Miller Avenue Gary, IN with Rev. Selvaraj Selladurai officiating. Burial will follow in Calumet Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-11 am on Tuesday at the Church. Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel assisted with arrangements.
