Anita S. Mendez (nee Stegner), age 69, of Portage, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 29, 1947 to the late John and Jeannett (nee Kaptuska) Stegner. Anita worked as an accountant at Urschel labs. She will be remembered as a loving; mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Anita is survived by her three sons, Scott Devine, Robert (America) Devine and Bradley Devine; daughter, Kristin (Stephan DeVaney) Mendez; five grandchildren, Mariah Devine, Keegan Devine, Rayne Myers, Dora Devine and Amber Edmonds; niece; Jennifer Nelson; great nephew, Johnathan Harriman; two great nieces, Meagan Harriman, Brittany Harriman and several other nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and friends.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jeannett Stegner; two brothers, Don Stegner and John Stegner and sister, Lora (William) Nelson.

A funeral service for Anita will take place Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 7:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana 46368. Cremation will follow. Visitation for Anita will be Tuesday, July 25, 2017 2017 from 2:00 pm until time of service.
