Anita (Skolak) Sakes, age 82, of Hobart, Indiana passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025 surrounded by her family with her three daughters by her side. She is survived by her daughters and their families: Christine and William (Boo) McCollum and daughter Marissa Anita of Hobart; Stephanie and Skip Cheesman and son Reagan of Greenwood, IN; and Roxanne and Andrew Ramage and their children Jack, Johnny Michael, and Kate of Springfield, IL.

She is also survived by her two brothers, Michael (Joyce) Skolak of Hobart and Rudy (Charlene) Skolak of Hobart; and sister-in-law, Linda Skolak of Valparaiso; brother-in-law Andrew (Fran) Sakes of Crown Point; sister-in-law Tulla Hayes of Valparaiso; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by John Sakes, her husband of 47 years, as well as her parents Joan Skolak and Rudolph Skolak and brothers David Skolak, John Skolak, and Tom Skolak.

She was a proud graduate of the Class of 1960 at Tolleston High School where she made lifelong friends, and her monthly Tolleston dinner reunions continued until her death. Mom always said, "It was the best time to grow up."

John and Anita were proud lifelong residents of Hobart. In their later years, when they had more time together, my dad often referred to "Triple A days" which were "All About Anita" days. He loved her fiercely and would do anything for her. They owned Hoosier Movers and Hobart Furniture for many years. Anita sold hundreds of homes in Northwest Indiana as a Realtor for McColly Real Estate and she helped families young and old make their dreams of homeownership come true. For our Mom, it was more than selling homes, it was making connections with so many people. She adored listening to Elvis and watching Hallmark movies with her family, and she never passed up a trip to Ross or the casino. Halloween was always celebrated with stuffed peppers and homemade costumes for daughters and grandchildren alike! If you ever saw her without earrings on or nails done, no you didn't.

She will be loved and missed as the best Mom and Mamaw we could have, and by all those who knew her as a sister, wife, and friend.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 from 4-7 pm at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 10 am at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 107 Main Street, Hobart, IN with Reverend Benjamin Ross officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic school of your choice, as our parents sacrificed so much for their three daughters to attend St Bridget's School and Andrean High School.  This is a Sakes family tradition that continues today with all grandchildren attending Catholic schools.
