Obituary

Ann Sue Rich  (Levenda Waldron), of Hobart, Indiana, age 70, left this world on June 1, 2020.  She was born on June 1, 1950.  She was very active with the local Moose Lodge and the Indiana Moose Association and held numerous positions in the Women of the Moose.  She earned her Academy of Friendship, College of Regents and Star Recorder serving Hobart Chapter #249.   One of her proudest accomplishments was being honored to be chosen to serve as the Deputy Grand Regent of Indiana. She loved her year filling that position.  She loved helping the children at Mooseheart and was proud of her work. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 54.    She worked outside the home for many years doing many things including selling Tupperware, at Dollar General, until she "retired" to "work" as a day care provider for her grandkids.

Ann Sue is survived of her husband of 25 years Freddie Rich and her children Ann Marie (Michael Simmons) Waldron of Indianapolis, Stacy (Jon) Vasilak of Griffith, Chrissy (Don) Duncan of Westville and Larry Rich of Hampton, New Hampshire.  She is also survived by her pride and joy her grandchildren, Katherine (Tim Moriarty) Piscione, Jonathon Vasilak, Emily Vasilak and Margo Duncan; siblings, Mary Margaret (Joe) Szymanski, Michaeleen (Rick) Orelup, and John Levenda; her mother-in-law, Shirley Rich; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Levenda, her father-in-law Fred Rich, her brother-in-law, Bart Rich; her granddaughter Michelle Duncan, and many other aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

Ann Sue was known by many names- Ann Sue, Sue, Suzy, Suzy Q, K-Cup, Pocket Baba, and many others including ones that cannot be put in print.  Ann Sue never met a stranger.  She was a fierce protector.  She was pocket-sized. Though she was tiny, she was mighty.  When she walked in the room, she became the center of attention just because of who she was.  Her smiled warmed your heart. She wore her heart on her sleeve.   If she felt you hurt someone she loved, she would do all she could to protect her loved one.  She was never afraid to tell you how she felt.  You never knew if she was going to give you a hug or threaten to bitch slap you.   Ann Sue gave herself and her heart to those in need.  She loved her music, she loved to dance, she loved helping the Moose Lodge, and she loved her grandkids serving as chauffer, babysitter, fan in the stands, and giving out Baba kisses.  She had so many bonus children and grandchildren who she "adopted" over the years.  She always told her grandkids that they were lucky because everyone had a grandma but not everyone had a Baba. She would tell her grandchildren's friends that they now had a Baba, too and she filled that roll by loving all her bonus grandchildren.

Ann Sue did not want people to cry for her.  Rather she wanted people to celebrate her, tell stories about her and remember her fondly.  In her honor, sit back, tell some stories, relax and raise a glass to her memory.  In fact, she told her family that she expected them to celebrate her and her birthday each and every year.  So each year on her birthday, remember her and celebrate those memories.  Smile through the tears and know she is always with you and in your heart.

There will be a private funeral for family at Rees Funeral Home in Hobart to say goodbye.   In light of the current situation, because she had so many friends and family far and wide, they will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date when it is safe for all of her family and friends to gather, raise a glass, and celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to send a donation to Mooseheart through Moose Charities or Dunes Hospice Foundation, Inc. in her memory.
