Antoinette Barkowski

Age 98, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Spring Mill in Merrillville. She was born on June 8, 1915 to the late Valentine and Anna Horabik. Antoinette was a member of Nativity of Our Savior Church in Portage and of the Ladies Sodality. She was an excellent cook and she loved making dolls especially Raggedy Ann and Andy, she enjoyed sharing them with her family and friends.
Antoinette is survived by her three sons; Jerome Barkowski of Portage, Raymond (Peggy) Barkowski of Florida and Norbert (Janice) Barkowski of Munster; four grandchildren, Donna (Mike) Johnson, Mary Wentz , Jill and Ron Barkowski; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Walter Horabik of Chicago; sister, Frances Niedzwiedz of Chicago, other loving family members and friends.
Antoinette is preceded in death by her husband, Clement Barkowski; her parents, sister, Helen Nelson; brother Louis Horabik and daughter -in-law Janet Barkowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin directly at Nativity of Our Savior Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage, IN on Monday, December 23, 2013 with Rev. Andrew J. Corona officiating at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Schererville. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Rees Funeral Home- Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. Portage, IN with a 7 pm Rosary Service.
