Anton V. "Batch" Belei, age 96 of Crown Point formerly of Portage and Gary passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the Chicagoland Christian Village. He was born on March 27, 1918 in Mark, Illinois to the late Vencenzo and Maria Belei. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. Ryder Council #4047. Anton was a Cement Mason and Union Finisher working for Power and Thompson Construction, A and B Concrete and then Anton Belei and Sons Concrete. He was a member of the Cement Masons Local and had earned his Gold Card. He loved golfing and gardening and worked for Summertree, Cressmoor, Indian Ridge, Turkey Creek, and Duck Creek golf courses working with their gardening and maintenance. Anton was a kind and gentle man who was loved by everyone. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by 2 sons, William (Nancy) Belei of Crown Point, IN; Robert (Judy) Belei of Crown Point, IN; 1 daughter, Mary (Kerry) Roman of Crown Point(LOFS), IN; 8 grandchildren, Jim, Bill, Rebecca, Melissa, Larry, Anton, Roxanne, and Rachel and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, DeLores C. Belei (nee Ambrose), 1 son, Anthony "Tony" Belei, and 2 sisters, Angie and Jean.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations are preferred to the family to help with funeral expenses.

A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Winfield Chapel, 10909 Randolph St., Crown Point/Winfield 46307 with a memorial service to follow at 6 p.m. with Rev.
