Antonio "Tony" Fontanez

Age 68, of Portage passed away on Friday February 10, 2023. Tony was born on January 11, 1955, in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico to his mother, Gloria Garcia and his late father, Antonio Fontanez. He was a self-employed mechanic and was a very happy go lucky guy. He was a morning person, he loved to get up and go out bike riding with his fur babies, Prieta and Bella. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his crop with his family and friends. One of his favorite things was to share his love of food and sweets with others. He liked listening to all music but loved Salsa music most of all. Tony will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.  He is survived by his wife, Minerva Cruz-Fontanez; Six children, Johan (Miguel) Fontanez-Agosto, Nilda Fontanez, Reinaldo (Angelique) Figueroa Jr., Johnny Figueroa, Nicole (Sean) Risinger, and Melissa Fontanez (Chris Guerra); 17 grandchildren, Karina Fontanez, Michael Agosto, Stephanie Esguerra, Jose Vasquez, Zulimar Vasquez, Priscilla Vasquez, Reinaldo "Guerro" Figueroa III, Elijah Figueroa, Nehemiah Figueroa, Nicholas Figueroa, Brooklynn Figueroa, Noel Pineda, Leana Figueroa, Desirae Figueroa, Christian Risinger, Christopher Guerra and Nicholas Guerra; four great grandchildren, Darian Gross, Isabella Gross, Mateo Swann and Ariella Figueroa; mother, Gloria Garcia; brother, Francisco Fontanez; sister, Denise Fontanez-Ocasio. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Josiah Figueroa, father, Antonio Fontanez, and brother, Benjamin Fontanez. A funeral service for Tony will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, 5341 Central Ave. Portage, Indiana 46368. Cremation will follow.
