Arlene Jane Nitz, age 88, of Hobart and formerly of Hammond passed away Thursday September 17, 2015 at the Miller's Merry Manor in Hobart. Arlene was born June 23, 1927 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Clabe and Lefa (George) Purkey. She was a log time employee of Paylow and Reliable Groceries where she worked in the Deli and Meat Departments. She was a hard working mother that cared for her children.

She is survived by three children Frank (Bernetta) Nitz of Lake Station, Ginger (Donald) Minnis of Lubbock, TX and Francine Matzus of Hegewisch, IL; Eight grandchildren including special grandchildren Jennifer and Terry Beck; Thirteen great grandchildren; one brother Rev. Ronald (Sara) Purkey of Hammond; and many nieces and nephews.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, grand daughter Marie Flannigan, former husband Frank Nitz, and several brothers and sisters.

Memorial visitation will be Monday September 21, 2015 from 1-2 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel 3781 Central Avenue, Lake Station, Indiana. A memorial service will be conducted at 2pm at the Funeral Home with Rev. Don Taylor officiating.
