Arnold "Arnie" Richard Schroeder

Age 84 passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023. Arnie was born November 22, 1938, to parents, Hans Arnold Schroeder, and Mary Ann (nee Harsha) in Moline, Illinois. He graduated from Orion Community High School in 1956, St. John's College in 1958, Concordia Teacher's College in 1960 and obtained his master's degree from Loyola University in 1970. On June 12, 1965, Arnie married the love of his life Mary Hudson and shared 57 wonderful years together until her passing in May of 2022.

Arnie is survived by his four children; two sons, Arnie (Sharon) Schroeder and Stephen (Karen) Schroeder; two daughters, Amy (Bradley) Kunas and Emily (Bradley) Salmon; seven grandchildren, Melvin "Gus" (Linda) Chaney III, Aubrey Schroeder, Jake and Makena Kunas, Greta, Tate, and Charlotte Salmon; great-grandson, Ashton Chaney; sister, Ethel (John) Beyer and two brothers, Kenneth Schroeder, and Tim (Darla) Schroeder, and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary "Dolly" L. Schroeder.

Arnie's accomplishments were many. He retired after 24 years at Trinity Lutheran School in Hobart in 2001 as principal where he taught Grades 1 and 2.  He taught at Bethlehem Lutheran School, Chicago, Salem Lutheran School, Homewood, IL, Emmanuel Lutheran School as principal, Fort Wayne, IN, St. John's Lutheran School, and was Director of Education at Emmanuel in Monroeville, IN. He also taught at Bethlehem Lutheran in Ossian, IN as teacher and principal.

Arnie was very active in our community as a member of HIEDEC, the Chamber of Commerce, and he was Treasurer and a Sunday School Teacher at Trinity in Hobart. Arnold also served as Treasurer of Indiana District Principals. He was Chairman of the Castlewood Housing. Never to be idle, he worked for 17 years at Rees Funeral Home.

He enjoyed his time bicycling around Lake Michigan and Lake Erie with his friend, Dr. Thompson. Arnie will be missed by all who knew him. He was a man dedicated to his wife and family, to the education of children, and to the betterment of his community. He was a man of great faith.

Donations in his memory can be made to Trinity Lutheran School or to the organization of your choice.  Arnie would like to thank all the "Angels of the Lord" who gave of their time to take him to his various appointments. A special thank you to all who cared for him during his stay at Miller's Senior Living in Portage and VNA Hospice in Valparaiso.

A funeral service for Arnie will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Rd. Hobart, Indiana. Private family burial at McCool on Monday, November 13, 2023. A visitation will be held at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart, IN from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service also at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
