Arthur "Ed" Edmund Cornett, age 88, of Lake Station passed away Friday August 3, 2012 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. He was born December 20, 1923 in Laurel County, KY to the late John Creed and Arlia (Hinkle) Cornett. He was a steelworker retiring after 45 years of service at US Steel Gary Works. He was an active member of American Legion Post 100. He was a WWII vetran that earned a Purple Heart. Ed loved gardening and tinkering in his garage. He also enjoyed traveling and finding treasures at Flea Markets. He married Johnnie Mae Hall on August 10, 1973 in London, KY. She survives him.
Also surviving are three daughters Grace Joanne (Joseph) Pernick of Valparaiso, Elizabeth Gail (Skip) Nelson of Portage and Arlene (John) Hochstetler of Union Mills; two sons Michael Waddell of Lake Station and Terry Lee Waddell of Brooksville, KY; ten grandchildren Theresa (John) Minahan, Athena (Sam Raich, III) Rivera, Heather (Rick) Davich, Sarah Swann, Jennifer Evans, Robert AKinczyk, Anthony Waddell, Jason Waddell, Tina Waddell and Heather Waddell; eight great grandchildren Amber, Michael, Matthew Arthur, William, Dylan, Jaydon, Tyler and Chelsea; one great great grandchild Gabriella; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by one son Arthur J, Cornett; his parents; 6 brothers: Vernice, John, George, Velmer "Gene", Verrel, and Curtis; and 3 sisters Ellen Martin Cornett, Bernice Shell and Julie Fern Martin.
Funeral services are 2:00 pm Wednesday August 8, 2012 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, Hobart. Visitation is Wednesday, August 8, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to American Legion Post #100 1899 Central Avenue Lake Station, IN 46405 for a memorial bench in his honor.
