Age 86, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Brentwood in LaPorte, Indiana. Arthur was a retired Operating Engineer 1946-1980 for American Bridge Construction, Gary Works. He was a United States Army Veteran who proudly served his country and was a recipient of many awards, American Theater ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Stars; Good Conduct Medal; Purple Heart; and Victory Medal in World War II. On October 7, 1946 Arthur married the love of his life Naomi (nee Wolfe) Nelson and spent 65 wonderful years together. He was a member of Dunes Masonic Lodge 741.He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Arthur is survived by his loving family; wife Naomi Nelson of LaPorte, 3 sons; Arthur R. (Rosa) Nelson Jr. of Westville, Harold Mark Nelson of Chickasha, OK, Rob A. Nelson of Warsaw, 8 grandchildren; Nicholas Good of Portage, Kristie Good of Portage, Michael Place of Warsaw, Carol (John) Beaver of Dowagiac,MI, Janet Nelson of Merrillville, Bruce (Ellie) Jahr of Chesterton, Shane (Joanna) Nelson of Valparaiso, Steve (Angie Nelson of Westville, 3 brothers Irving F. Nelson of Portage, Donald (Kathleen) Nelson of Portage, Dale Nelson of Valparaiso, and many other family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Fredrick Irving (Mabel) Nelson, 2 sons; Kenton and Daniel Nelson, daughter Nancy Maldonado and brother Robert Nelson.

Funeral Service, and Masonic Dunes Lodge 741 for Arthur will be held Wednesday December 28,2011 at 7p.m. with Chaplain Roger Ash officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 28,2011 from 4pm- until time of service also at Rees Funeral Home Olson Chapel 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana.
