Obituary
ASHLEY CAROLE BURBEE, age 19, of Portage, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Ashley was born on July 2, 1992 in Merrillville. She was a 2011 graduate of Portage High School and currently attended Ivy Tech Community College in Valparaiso. Ashley was employed at the Portage YMCA as the head lifeguard and a swim instructor, and also enjoyed volunteering at Opportunity Enterprises. While attending Portage High School she was very involved and belonged to many clubs and organizations, including German, Environmental Club, Pep Band, Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Symphonic Orchestra.
Ashley is survived by her mother, Mary (Jeff) Liggett of Portage; father, Ronald (Sue) Burbee of Valparaiso; sister, Lindsay Burbee of Portage; step-siblings, George (Stacey) Ferguson of Indianapolis, Brittany Vasquez of Valparaiso, Dustin (Abigail) Liggett of Oakwood, IL, Britany (Brandon) Edwards of Westville, IL, Jason Liggett of Champaign, IL and Claire Baldwin-Liggett of Indianpolis; grandmother, Carolee Epperson of Portage; grandparents, Dean and Karen Liggett of Gilbertsville, KY; favorite aunts and uncles, Jim (Carolyn) Epperson, Jill Epperson, Lisa (Al) Cagle, Tim (Kriss) Burbee, and Tim (Cindy) Petersen, Steve (Cheryl) Ligget, and Daphne (Cheryl) Dexter; special aunts, Katrina Eldridge and Sandy Manis; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sister, Lynne R. Burbee; grandparents, Donald & Judy Burbee; grandmother, Lorraine Petersen; uncle, Tom Burbee; aunts, Kim Epperson and Cathie Petersen; niece, Brooklyn Edwards.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Ashley Burbee Memorial at the Portage YMCA.
A funeral service for Ashley will be Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3561 S. Randolph, Hobart, with Rev. Roberta Cook and Rev. Marsha Cory officiating.
