Asterio "Tilingo" Nieves, Sr.

ASTERIO "TILINGO" NIEVES, SR., age 77, of Lake Station, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019.  Tilingo was born on March 2, 1942 in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico.  He proudly served his country in the Army.  He was a longtime NW Indiana resident and worked for many years at the steel mill and later was self-employed as a carpenter.

He is survived by 1 son, Asterio (Lori) Nieves, Jr. and 5 daughters, Josie (Mike) VanDeventer, Annette (Bill) Rader, Kim Nieves, Lisa (Andrew) Ramsey, Nicole (Carlos) Soto; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Estella (Juan) Cruz and Ana (Enrique) Fontanez; he was also an uncle to many and a friend to all.

Tilingo was preceded in death by his mother, Josefína Maldonado; father, Arcadio Nieves; and stepfather, Ernesto "Cachaco" Rodriguez

A funeral service for Tilingo will be Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 3781 Central Ave., Lake Station.  Burial will follow at Noon at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery, 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421.  Visitation will be Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, (219) 962-1606.
