Barbara Darosky (nee Hofmann), age 89, a longtime Portage resident, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014. She was born on June 2, 1925, in Glaserwald, Czechoslovakia, as one of 8 siblings. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Orthodox Church in Chesterton. Barbara enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Tamara (late Stanley) Elkins of Valparaiso, IN; Brenda (Michael) Sprengel of Portage, IN; Renee Darosky of Portage, IN; 3 grandchildren, David (Mari) Elkins, Amanda Elkins, Logan Sprengel, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Darosky, her parents, Edward and Anna Hofmann, her 7 siblings, and son-in-law, Stanley Elkins.

Funeral services are Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Orthodox Church, 545 W. Indiana Ave., Chesterton with Rev. William Bass officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN. Visitation is Monday, September 8, 2014, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Panikhida service at 7 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage.
