Barbara Hill Sharp of Valparaiso, formerly of Hobart, Indiana and Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the age of 83. Barbara was an active volunteer in Hobart and Valparaiso all her adult life. She held offices in the Hobart Jayshees, Phi Beta Psi Sorority, Hobart Board of Parks and Recreation, a leader in community fund raising for Hobart Hospital, YMCA, Heart Fund and HIEDC. Barbara served as a member of the past Porter Memorial Hospital Guild and Olde Towne Homeowners Association. She is a life member of Indiana Veterinary Medical Auxilliary. Barbara served as deacon for First Presbyterian Church of Valparaiso and was very involved with the Presbyterian Resale Shop in Valparaiso. Along with her many community activities, Barbara enjoyed her bridge clubs; she and her friends from her first club were still currently meeting after 61 years.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Dr. Bruce Sharp (1985). She is survived by her children, Sally Sharp (Peter Gauthier) of Arlington, VA, Jim (Yvonne) Sharp of Michigan City, IN, Janet (Joe) Quigley of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and David (Martha) Sharp of Morgan Township, IN. Barbara has 9 grandchildren, Jen (Matt) Cromer, Tom Sharp, Jenna (Mark) Lee, Catherine (Jason) Roberts, Ryan Quigley, Steven Sharp, Julieanne (Dustin) Reynolds, Laura Carrell, and Andrew Sharp. She has four great grandchildren, Amelia, Audrey, Caleb, and Annabelle.
Visitation will be held at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm with a Phi Beta Psi Sorority service at 5:30 pm. Additional visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Valparaiso, 3401 North Valparaiso Street, Valparaiso on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 9:30 am until the time of service. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am at church with Rev. Mark Mueller officiating. Burial will follow at New Carlisle Cemetery, New Carlisle, IN. The family invites you to join them in the celebration of their mom's life.
