Barbara Jean Sherman (nee Poffinbarger), age 86 of Miller Beach passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023. She was born on October 6, 1936, to the late Ora and Helen (Opydo) Poffinbarger. On December 3, 1960, she married George P. Sherman, who preceded her in death in 2015. Also preceding her in death are her stepmother, Grace Streight; and brothers, Robert and William Poffinbarger

She is survived by the most wonderful and loving son that God could give a mother, Darin Sherman of Miller Beach; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, dear friends, Rick and Nikki Pyle, Alice Pickford, Peter and Phyllis Passarelli, Danna Conley, Pat Cronin and Susan Dutcher. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Barbara's nurses, Diamond and Trisha Nalley for their compassion and kindness while caring for her. The family would also like to thank the medical professionals at St. Mary Medical Center and more recently at Northlake Methodist Hospital who made her final stay comfortable.

Barbara loved living in Miller Beach and looking at the lake at any time of day. She was passionate about her community. As a long-standing member of the Miller Citizens Corporation, she dedicated herself to stopping all of the strip clubs in Miller Beach.

Barbara retired after 20 years of working for Gary-Hobart Water. She had a 10-year career with Libra Two Modeling and worked for 20 years as a vendor for many fragrance companies when she retired at age 75. In her free time, she loved antiquing and watching the Gameshow Network.

Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 3781 Central Ave., Lake Station.
