Benjamin T. Luna, age 76 of Hobart passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2013. He was born on September 4, 1937 in Gary Indiana. Ben worked for the Gary School Corporation for 28 years and retired from the River Forest School Corporation where he had served as principal of Evans Elementary School. He served for many years on the Board of Directors for Methodist Hospital and Ivy Tech. He also served as President of the Hispanic Coordinating Council, the district coordinator for late congressman, Adam Benjamin, and he was involved with many other organizations. He loved serving others. Ben received the Sagamore of the Wabash in 1994 and the Quality of Life Award in 2005. He loved reading, watching movies, and vacationing in the Caribbean with his wife, Carolyn.

Ben is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Luna (nee Lopez) of Hobart, IN; 3 daughters, Angela (Patty) Luna of Sacremento, CA; Carmen Luna-Hogan of Valparaiso, IN; Christina (Kevin) McQueeney of Greenfield, IN; 1 son, Benjamin (Amie) Luna of Valparaiso, IN; 1 brother, Albert Herrera of Griffith, IN; 2 sisters, Mary Vazquez of Hobart, IN; Feliciana Noriega of Portage, IN; mother-in-law, Florence Lopez of Portage, IN; 3 brothers-in-law, Vidal (Judy) Lopez of FL; Randy (Donna) Lopez of Hobart, IN; Ronald Lopez of Hebron, IN; 1 sister-in-law, Bonnie Holder of Hobart, IN; 6 grandchildren, Ashley Hogan, Zachary Hogan, Christian Luna, Joshua Luna, Westom McQueeney, and Jaclyn MCqueeney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ines and Flavia Luna, 3 sisters, Caroline Mislin, Pat DeLeon, Toni Lara, 1 brother, Isadore Luna.

Funeral services are Monday, November 18, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St Francis Xavier Church, 2447 Putnam St., Lake Station with Rev. David Kime officiating. Cremation will follow.
