Bernard J. Hoffman, age 90, of Hobart, passed away Monday, December 18, 2017. He was born on August 1, 1927 in Elmhurst, Illinois to the late Bernard and Edith Hoffman. He was a retired engineer with NIPSCO. He served six years in the U.S. Merchant Marines and two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart. He received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indiana Institute of Technology. Bernard was a member of the Hobart VFW. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Hoffman; brothers, David and Frank; sister, Marie.

He is survived by his son, James (Barbara) Hoffman; daughter, Beth (Terry) Strbac; grandchildren, William Allen and Angela Snellgrove; sister, Marilyn. Memorial contributions in Bernard's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation for Bernard will take place Friday, December 22, 2017 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart.
