Bertha L. Drake
Age 86, a longtime Portage resident, passed away July 1, 2014 at Addison Point in Chesterton. She was born on September 17, 1927 in Gary, Indiana to the late Virgil L. and Elizabeth (nee Henderson) Ward. She was a 1945 Emerson High School graduate and a retired book keeper for Jack Gray Trucking Company, Otto G. Fifield and the City of Portage. Bertha married the love of her life, the late Kenneth Drake, on April 20, 1946 in Gary, Indiana. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
Bertha is survived by her loving family; three sons, Larry Alan (Ruth) Drake of Portage, Timothy E. Drake of Chicago, Kenneth E. (Kenna) Drake Jr. of Muncie; two daughters, Laura (Joe ) Gouger of Porter, Elizabeth (Roger) Hull of Portage; nine grandchildren and 7 ½ great-grandchildren; half-sister, Georgia Parnell, many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Gregory Randall Drake, daughter-in-law, Vicki Drake, great-granddaughter, Ruby Grace Drake and sister, Grace E. Stonehill.
