Bertha Viramontes

Bertha Viramontes "Cookie", age 79 of Valparaiso passed away August 29, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born on July 4, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois. Cookie worked as a tax auditor for the Internal Revenue Service. She was a talented seamstress and could mend any clothing. She enjoyed crafting things for her family and her fur babies. Cookie was an animal lover and had a special place in her heart for hummingbirds. Above all, she loved her family.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Osmon, Sr.; daughters, Valerie (Tony) Rhein, Victoria (Edward) Viramontes, Vanessa (Paul) Kopterski; grandchildren, Ryan (Nichole) Viramontes, Karsen (Becky) Rhein, Josh (Becky) Shiffer, Connor (Kristine) Rhein, T.J. Shiffer, Charlie Kopterski, Casey Rhein, Keira Rhein and Cody "Bubba" Kopterski; great grandchildren, Dominic, Van and Jack Viramontes; sister, Lydia McMurtry; cousins, Lupe (Ray) Williams, Lisa, Lynda, Chrissy, little Vicky, Kim and their spouses and children; and many grand fur babies.

Cookie was preceded in death by her mother, Felicitas Mungia; sister, Martha Avila; brother, Raymond Mungia; and granddaughter, Tori Rhein. In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Cookie may be made to the American Lung Association.

Visitation for Cookie will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, September 6, 2024, at 10:00 am at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage with prayers starting at the funeral home at 9:15 am.
