BETTIE J. TUCKETT, age 104, of Hobart, formerly of Merrillville and Gary, passed away Monday, April 28, 2025, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Las Animas, Colorado on March 4, 1921, to the late Manuel and Lillian Grace Buckey. Bettie was a student of Edith Martin and of the music program at Indiana University. She taught piano lessons for many years in Gary and Merrillville. Bettie was a member of Hobart United Methodist Church and formerly belonged to City Methodist and Ambridge Methodist. She had been a member of the Mar-Kay Club in Gary and the PEO, Chapter "O". Bettie will be remembered as a loving and supportive mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Bettie is survived by her 8 grandchildren, David A. (Joseph Drew) Tuckett, Douglas B. Tuckett, Kathryn Tuckett, Kirsten (the late Matthew) Good, Tanya Wagoner, Karolyn A. Tuckett, Nathasha (Brent) Cox, and Theresa Tuckett; 8 great grandchildren, Alex, Chris, Allen Michael, Avery, Calvin, Christopher, Jasmine, and Neveah; daughters-in-law, Susan (James) Robertson and Sharon Tuckett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Tuckett in 1995; sons, Tom A. Tuckett and David J. Tuckett; brother, Jack Buckey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to PEO (Philanthropic Education Organization), Hobart United Methodist Church or charity of donor's choice.
There will be a memorial visitation for Bettie on Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Leah Peksenak officiating, at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart.
