Betty J. (nee Wilson) Akins, age 87, of Portage, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016. She was born on January 30, 1929 in Galatia, Illinois to the late Arthur and Leeta Wilson. In her free time, Betty enjoyed doing crafts. Above all, she cherished her great grandchildren and the time she spent with them. She will always be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother to those who love her.

Betty is survived by her sons, Bobby (Becky) Akins, Gary (Janice) Akins; grandchildren, Jeff Akins , Stacy (Scott) Clark, Brenda Akins, Jessica Akins; sisters, Ruth Rumsey, Mabel Serles; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mitch Akins; granddaughter, Wendy Burns; two brothers; and 5 sisters. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Allie for all the help she has given to her great grandmother.

A funeral service for Betty will take place Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. She will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
