Obituary

Betty A. Cleek, age 82 a longtime Chesterton/Portage resident, passed away Friday, October 14, 2022. She was born on July 30, 1940, in Gary, Indiana to the late Manuel and Lottie (Szostek) Ponda. Betty worked at Chesterton High School as a Cook and also at Continental Can. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Hobart.

She is survived by two sons, Bobby (Lauri) Cleek, Jr, of The Woodlands, TX; Jerry (Donna) Cleek of Hobart, IN; one daughter Carolyn (Ron) Rogers of Abileen, TX; five siblings, Rosemary Bozan, Charlotte (Rick) Buckingham, Richard (Linda) Ponda, Debbie (Ben) Hymes, David (Kathy) Ponda, six grandchildren, Nicholas Cleek, IN, Zachary Cleek, TX, Jacob (Kayleigh) Cleek, SC , Samantha Cleek, TX, Katie (Derek) Rogers, VA and Benjamin Rogers, TX, three great-grandchildren, Stella Rogers, Finn Rogers, and Camden Cleek, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie Cleek, Sr. siblings, Leona Ponda, Catherine Hennings, Angie Laing, Anna Caldwell, Bob Ponda, Michael Ponda, Angelo Ponda, Manuel Ponda, and Dominick Ponda.

Funeral services are Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Jerry Cleek officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel. (219) 942-2109.
