BETTY M. HAMSCHER, age 85, of Hobart, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Saint Mary Medical Center. Betty was born on May 5, 1929 to Raymond and Edna Leavitt. She moved to Indiana in 1964 where she raised her family. She was a proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother. At 85, Betty was as funny, quick-witted, and smart as a 25 year-old. She was an avid reader and TV watcher, and she did not discriminate when it came to authors or shows. One minute she was discussing education reform, and the next she was exclaiming, "You will not believe what is happening with the Kardashians." She still laughed at a good double entendre, and yes, farts were still funny. But so much more than having a good sense of humor, Betty knew how to love. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren felt important in her presence. She never passed up an opportunity to hug, hold, kiss, and tell her family just how much she loved them. "My precious baby, you floated down from Heaven on a cloud," she might say to a grandchild or great-grandchild, all of whom she believed were perfect angels. And she always had to have the last word: "No, I love YOU more!" This sweet, sassy, fun-loving, never-complaining, always-loving woman will be missed by so many. She was beautiful.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Raymond (Barbara) Hamscher and Robert Hamscher, Jr.; daughter, Linda Rose; 7 grandchildren, Casey (Monica) Rose, Kimberly (Jason) Hallstrom, Michelle (David) Leong, Cory (Lisa) Hamscher, Ryan (Kelly) Hamscher, Joe (Jennifer) Hamscher, and Christina (Scott) Pachowicz; 9 great grandchildren, Skyla, Autumn, Olie, Oriana, Eli, Annelise, Caden, Carter, Addisyn, and her cat Baby Girl.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Newell and brother, George Leavitt.
