Betty Lou Snelling, age 95 a longtime Hobart resident passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016. She was born on October 5, 1921 in Muldrow, Oklahoma to the late Clarence and Ethel Levy. She retired from the Indiana State Employment Service where she had worked as an Employment Security Specialist. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hobart and AAUW. She loved to play Bridge and was really good at it. She also loved Crossword Puzzles and Sudoku. Betty Lou loved having cats as pets and always had at least one.
She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Priscilla Snelling of Hastings, MN; 3 grandchildren, Joel Snelling of Seattle, WA; Joshua Snelling and Matthew Snelling both of MN; 5 great-grandchildren and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Kenneth Snelling, two sons, William Kenneth Snelling, Jr., and Paul Snelling, one brother, Gene Levy, and one sister, Faye Prater.
In lieu of flowers donations in Betty Lou's honor may be made to The Feline Community Network of Hobart or the Humane Society of Hobart.
Visitation is Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, 2701 Willowdale Rd., Portage with Rev. Rebecca Lynn Smith officiating.
