Betty Vieitez, age 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3, at Heritage Health in Dwight, Illinois. She was born on June 9, 1933, in Hammond, IN to Peter and Marcile (Havling) Jongsma.
She was a band mother for Hobart bands for many years. She was a member of the Southern Pines, NC quilters guild. She enjoyed making beautiful quilts for her friends and family.

Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gerardo; daughter Nina (Victor) Claxton; sons Gerard (Kathy) and David (Doreen); two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister Janet George; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son Michael, her parents, and a brother Bill. Memorial contributions in Betty's name may be made to Chicago Honor Flight, 938 West Montana Street, Chicago, IL 60614.

A funeral service for Betty will take place at 12:00 pm Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. She will be laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 11:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
