Betty Jane Wells-Searer, age 87, of North Webster, and formerly of Hobart, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 22, 1929 in Joliet, Illinois to the late Herbert and Mary Secor. Betty was a talented seamstress. In her free-time, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidery, knitting and crocheting. Betty retired after 17 years at St Mary Medical Center, where she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She enjoyed working with people and especially liked working with the babies in the maternity ward.
She is survived by her husband, Robert C. Searer; daughter, Kathy (Dave) Austin of Plymouth; son-in-law, Gregory P. Breitzke of Punta Gorda, FL; step sons, Bobby Searer of Los Angeles, Jim (Michelle) Searer of DeMotte, IN, John (Marcia) Searer of North Manchester, IN; grandchildren, Richard (Misty) Mann of Portage, Gregory (Jenene) Breitzke of Kouts, Matthew (Lindsey) Breitzke of Broken Arrow, OK, Ryan (Laurie) Mann of Winfield; great grandchildren, Travis, Cassie, Collin, Jace and Stella Breitzke.
Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard E. Wells; daughters, Linda Breitzke, and Patricia Wells. Memorial contributions in Betty's name may be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 334 Enterprise Dr, Warsaw, IN 46580.
A funeral service for Betty will take place Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest during a private service at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville.
