Betty Lou Whitmer, age 82, of Portage passed away in her home on Saturday July 1, 2023, with her family by her side. Betty was born March 17, 1941, in New Albany, Indiana to the late William and Lola (Johnson) Grant. Betty retired as a Clerk with the EJ&E Railroad. In 1982 Betty married the love of her life Howard Whitmer. She was a great cook and loved to quilt. Most of all she loved her family.

Betty is survived by four children, John Garner, Jr., Shelly (Harold) Hunnicutt, Patricia Lagerstrom, Debra (Tom) Richards; four brothers and sisters, Briggs Clark, Dot Guess, Inez Gutierrez, and Bubbie Jackson; several grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband; one son, Brian Garner; two sisters, Shirley Sanchez and Nancy Clark; and two brothers, Ray Grant and Charles Grant.

Betty will be entombed in Graceland Mausoleum in Valparaiso with family in attendance.
