Billy J. Groves, age 88 of Lake Station passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015. He was born on July 12, 1926 in Thompsonville, Illinois, one of six children born to the late Alfred and Timmie Groves. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Lake Station VFW Post 9323, Lake Station American Legion Post 100. Billy retired in 1989 from the School City of Lake Station where he had worked in maintenance. He served as the Vice President of the Lake Station Food Pantry. Billy enjoyed gardening, fishing, craftsmanship, and woodworking. He was a family man and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Elaine (Jim) Fadely, Regina (Ken) Orlich, one daughter-in-law, Ruth Groves, five grandchildren, Brian (Shelli) Duca, Jeff (Cindi) Duca, Kelly (Michael) Runk, Daun Bieda, Caitlin (Mike) Zonder, six great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Claire, and Nick Duca, Courtney and Allie Runk, and Marjorie Zonder.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Groves, and one son, Wayne Groves.

Funeral services are Friday, April 10, 2015 at 12 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.
