Billy W. Martin, age 89, of Hobart, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at St. Mary Medical Center. He was born in Lyon County, Kentucky on May 15, 1928 to the late Glenn and Nannie (nee Doom) Martin. He retired from U.S. Steel, Sheet and Tin Division, after 46 years of service. Billy cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were his greatest joy. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren to the Smokies and spending winters with his wife, Opal, in Florida during retirement. They took pleasure in creating many enduring friendships during that time.

Billy is survived by his loving wife, of 72 years, Opal (nee Crouch) Martin; son, Dennis (Kiki) Martin; grandchildren, Todd (Brandy) Martin, Kyle (Kristyn) Martin, Drew Martin; great grandchildren, Kali, Kellen, Korbyn; and sister, Bonnie (Claude) Daughtrey.

A funeral service for Billy will take place Monday, May 22, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church of South Haven, 760 N. McCool Rd. Portage, IN 46368 with Pastor John C. Allen officiating. He will be laid to rest at Angelcrest Cemetery. Friends may gather with the family on Monday from 10-12 pm at the church. For more information, please call 219-942-2109.
