Bonnie Marie Buchanan, 72, of Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away on April 3, 2026.

Bonnie was born on September 8, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, to Richard and Shirley Godfrey.

Bonnie was a proud wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She shared 42 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, James Buchanan, building a life centered around love, family, and laughter.

She enjoyed the simple things that made her happy, including playing computer games, visiting the casino, and watching her favorite sci-fi and horror movies. One of her favorites was Trilogy of Terror. Bonnie also loved the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and especially the main character Jack Sparrow, correction Captain Jack Sparrow. She had a passion for collecting Barbies and Furbies and found great joy in traveling with her husband and her niece Shannin. Bonnie also had a very special heart for animals and faithfully supported her favorite charity, Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

Bonnie was a loving mother to Tami (Bob) Pelke and Theresa Novreske. She was a devoted grandmother to Kayla, Katiebug, David, Hailey, Maddie, and Myley, and a proud great-grandmother to Cammie, Weslyn, Colton, Gage, and Alex. Bonnie also shared a special bond with her niece, Shannin, and her nephews, Kristopher and Josh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Shirley Godfrey; her brother, Jimmy Godfrey; her grandson, Jacob McKay; and many beloved fur babies.

Bonnie will always be remembered as the heart of her family someone whose love, humor, and warmth touched everyone around her.
