Brenda F. Coates

Brenda Coates, age 73 of Portage passed away Saturday, September 10, 2022. She was born on August 24, 1949 in Hartselle, Alabama to the late Clayton D. and Vivian O. Taylor. She was employed as a beautician for most of her life. She enjoyed doing crafts and had a passion for music. Above all, she loved her family and dedicated her life to taking care of them. She will always be remembered for her selfless nature.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Coates; daughter, Michelle (Justin) Shasteen; grandchildren, Damon, Darian and Dayton Shasteen; brothers, Bobby (Sandra) Taylor, Boyd Taylor; sister, Becky Woodard; sisters-in-law, Pat Taylor, Sandra Taylor, Gloria Taylor; numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Vivian Taylor; brothers, Billy Joe Taylor, Boyce Taylor, Bruce Taylor; brother-in-law, Jim Woodard; sister-in-law, Linda Taylor.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 23, 2022 from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. A funeral service for Brenda will take place Friday at 12:30 pm at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso. For more information, please call (219) 762-3013.
