Brenda Kay Unland, age 78, of Hobart passed away Friday October 15, 2021, in her home with her family at her side. A lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana, Kay was born July 5, 1943 to the late Samuel and Marjorie (Dennis) Auxier in Gary, Indiana.  She was a bookkeeper for Unland and Sons and worked as the Secretary of the House for Camelot Lanes in Portage prior to her retirement.  She loved bowling and was a member of the Lake Shore Bowling Association; she also coached for YABA and for Hobart School bowling programs; she was an active member of the Maria Reiner Senior Center in Hobart; she enjoyed crocheting and donated blankets to veterans, and hats and blankets to St Mary Medical Center for infants and cancer patients.

Kay is survived by her three daughters, Sheryl Unland of Hobart, Brenda (Ed) Raleigh of Hobart, and Debra Sturgill of Portage; seven grandchildren, Josh Unland, Dustin Sturgill, Jake Sturgill, Eddie Raleigh, Ryan Raleigh, Bryan Raleigh, and Sarah Unland; three great grandchildren, Chesnie Unland, Zion Dockery, and Bryce Sturgill; her brother Ron Auxier of Georgia; two sisters, Karen Robbins of Hobart and Errin Auxier of Chicago, IL; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She was preceded in death, by her loving husband, Bruce Unland; her parents Sam and Marjorie; and her son, Gary Unland.

Visitation for Kay will be held Thursday October 21, 2021, from 2-8 pm at Rees Funeral Home 600 W. Old Ridge Road Hobart, IN 46342.

In lieu of flowers friends are encouraged to donate to either the Maria Reiner Senior Center or The Hobart Humane Society.
