Bruce A. Buckner, age 62, of Portage, passed away Monday, October 5, 2015. He was born on March 6, 1953 in Gary, Indiana to the late Roy and Fredia Buckner. Bruce proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 12 years 7 months and 29 days. He was a member of the American Legion Post #502 and the Forty and Eight.

He is survived by his wife, Jocelyn Buckner; daughter, Phaebe Pearl Suerte; mother-in-law, Lourdes Dayday; sisters, Janine Buckner, Peggy (Don) Carlevato; grandson, Whearl Jinzen Suerte; nieces, Tammy Pearson, Teresa Newsome; nephews, Jeremy (Stephanie) Buckner, Joshua (Nanny) Buckner; great nieces, Laryssa Pearson, Nichole (Ethan) Hudson, Zoey Buckner; great nephews, Shawn Vires, Jesse Vires, Zane Buckner.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Fredia Buckner; his first wife, April Buckner; brother, Basil Buckner; nephew, Adam Troy Buckner.

A funeral service for Bruce will take place Friday, October 9, 2015 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 3781 Central Avenue Lake Station, with Pastor Deb Rousselle officiating. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the funeral home.
