Obituary

We mourn the loss of Bruce St. Julien, who passed away surrounded by his family on October 1, 2023, at the age of 74. Bruce's life was a remarkable blend of dedicated service, professional achievement, culinary artistry, intellectual curiosity, and abiding love for his family. He was born on March 23, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Robert and Corrine (McKevitt) St. Julien. Bruce's life was deeply shaped by his time in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. This period instilled in him values of duty, honor, and integrity, which he carried over into a fulfilling career at UTLX that spanned 31 years. Beyond his service and professional life, Bruce was a man of many catchphrases, a lover of science fiction, and a culinary virtuoso. His baked goods were nothing short of extraordinary - culinary masterpieces that delighted everyone fortunate enough to taste them.

Bruce was a loving husband to Janet, whom he married in 1979. Her passing in 2006 left an irreplaceable void, yet her memory continued to be a guiding light in his life. As a patriarch, Bruce was the cornerstone of his family, leaving to cherish his memory his seven children: Kristy (Bryan) Drake of Chesterton, IN, Alan Johnston of Chesterton, IN, Kimberly (Steven) Hillan of Chicago, IL, Brandy Johnston of Portage, IN, Jenna (Dave) Meade of Valparaiso, IN, Ryan (Amanda) St. Julien of Lebanon, IN, and Kelly (Dustin) Schrader of Sawyer, MI. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren: Kayla, Christopher, Brianna (Ryan), Ean, Alexis, Colton, Meadow, Alan, Kennedy, Lily, Janet, Erin, Dylan, Lydia, Brianna, Brenden, and Aiden and 3 great-grandchildren: Ruby, Raelynn, and Adelaide, each of whom carries forward a piece of Bruce's enduring legacy. Additionally, he is survived by his two sisters and a brother: Charmaine DelCotto of Frankfort, IL, Debbie Laforte of Grapevine, TX, and Tom (Sue) St. Julien of Chicago, IL. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Bob, and numerous family members that were very dear to his heart.

A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue Portage, Indiana 46368.
