Carmen N. Hernandez, age 82, of Lake Station, passed away August 29, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 22, 1935 in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico to the late Froilan and Juana Arocho. On December 11, 1953, she married Augustine Hernandez, who preceded her in death in 2013. Carmen was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church for 40 years, where she sang in the choir and volunteered with the Legion of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was currently a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Station. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, entertaining company, and singing.

She is survived by her sons, Augustine (Eve) Hernandez, Edwin (Evonne) Hernandez; daughters, Lydia (Magdaleno) Aceves, Evelyn Hernandez, Elsie Hernandez, Olga (Richard) Maggio; 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; brother, Victor (Carmen) Arocho; sister, Millie (Luis) Rodriguez; many other loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Augustine; son, Ruben Hernandez; granddaughters, Tiesha and Bianca Hernandez; brothers, Eddie and Tony Arocho; sister, Mildred Arocho.

Visitation for Carmen will be held Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, September 1, 2017 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2447 Putnam St., Lake Station at 10:30 am starting with prayers at the funeral home prior to Mass at 9:45 am.
