Carol Eve (Bushemi) Zellers

April 4, 1942-July 31, 2020

On July 31, 2020 Carol Eve Zellers passed away.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Anna Sidonia (Castellano) Bushemi (d.1967) and Marion J. Bushemi (Mario Bushemi), Indiana State Representative (d.1976), siblings, Clarence Bushemi (d.1971) and Violet Olson (d.2019) and her husband Joseph Harvey Zellers (d.1992).

Carol is survived by siblings, Edward Bushemi, Anthony Bushemi, and Evelyn Bushemi.  Her children are Joseph Anthony Zellers (Christina), Tina Marie (Zellers) Dowling (Erik) and Michael Troy Zellers (Michele). Her grandchildren are Ronald Zellers, Robert and Maria Soto, Antonio, Aidan, and Arye Dowling, and Marcos Zellers. Her great-grandchildren are Lilia and Ellen Soto, Gabriel and Hope Soto, Victor and Mykayla Koney.

During her lifetime as a housewife and mother, Carol enjoyed tending her gardens and growing various vegetables and flowers.  She cooked the foods of her Italian heritage as well as her husbands German legacy.  Her parents were Italian immigrants who, each as children, came to America in the early 1900's.

Later, Carol took painting classes and created landscape oils.  She also participated in a women's group at her church.  After her husband's passing, she spent time with her friends and family, watching her grandchildren grow up.  In recent years, she lived quietly in Portage, except for the sprightly sounds of her great-grandchildren.

Due to this year's global challenges, Carol will be privately laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery.  When safe, her children will have her celebration of life.
