Carol A. Chabes

Carol Ann Chabes, age 78, of Portage passed away Friday, April 18, 2025. She was born on May 19, 1946, in Gary, Indiana to the late Dillard and Geneva Reese. On June 27, 1964, she married Joseph Chabes at St. Luke's Catholic Church. She and Joe loved oldies music and they shared many wonderful memories traveling Indiana to see Harbor Lights. She retired in 2006 from Portage High School where she worked in food service. Carol adored her children and grandchildren and will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her son, Michael J. (Elle) Chabes; daughters, Diane Chabes, Janice (Joe) Whittington; grandchildren, Luke Chabes, Wesley (Kayla) Whittington, Wyatt Whittington; great grandchildren, Asher and Aiden Whittington, and Dawson Whittington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dillard and Geneva Reese; her beloved husband of 57 years, Joseph Chabes; and brother, Larry Reese.

Memorial visitation will be held Monday, May 5, 2025, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. A memorial service will take place at 12:00 pm.
