Carol A. (nee: Gates) Hanks - Price, 83, of Chesterton went home to the Lord on February 27, 2024. She was born November 4, 1940, in Gary, Indiana to the late John and Edith (nee: Johnson) Gates.
Carol married her first husband, Jack Hanks, in 1957 and they raised 3 children. They were together for 44 years until his passing in 2001. On December 17, 2005, Carol married Howard Price. They were both devout members of the Portage United Pentecostal Church where they were quite active. Carol loved the Lord and all His creations and was a prayer warrior. She worked as a nurse's aide at St. Mary's Hospital in Hobart for more than 30 years. She assisted with the care of her brother, and then sister, when they were diagnosed with cancer. Carol also loved her large, blended family; they would all get together and play games often. Carol always put others above herself, the light of Jesus shining through her acts and eyes. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Carol is survived by her husband, Howard; children, Jack A. (Tammy) Hanks, Sally (Dave) Swan, and David Price; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Sandra (Gene) Stanley, Valerie Tilford, and Janet (Lynn) Nelson; best friend of 70 years, Bertha Gobin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and first husband, Carol was preceded in passing by her sons, Greg and Roger Hanks; and siblings, Howard Gates, Richard Gates, Betty Williams, and Geraldine Shaffer.
Visitation will be from 10:00am – 12:00pm Monday, March 4, 2024, at Portage United Pentecostal Church, 2865 Willowdale Rd, Portage, IN 46368, with service to follow at 12:00pm. Burial will take place at Heritage Cemetery in Portage after the funeral service.
